Hoodna Orchestra - Alem Alem

Shana Tova! What a wild and chaotic year. Last year we were just before a demoralizing lockdown and since then we've gotten vaccinated (most of us), tasted a temporary Covid-free reopening, learned to sort of live with restrictions again, got a booster vaccine (most of us), and we are now learning to make peace with uncertainty. We might have an amazing month and year ahead of us with long-awaited travels and we might go back to some kind of semi-lockdown. I've learned to appreciate family meals which were once a tedious affair and at the same time I've learned how to enjoy my time on my own and find delight in unexpected places. One form of delight for me has been the "Oneg Shabbat" newsletter, which translates to "Shabbat Delight" and is a very long list of links related to music, culture, and anything interesting that catches Guy Hajaj's eyes and ears, delivered from his home in Vancouver every Saturday morning. The Oneg Shabbat returned after a lengthy break last October and one of my vivid pandemic memories was spending Saturday mornings on a sunny bench wih my headphones on, going through the Oneg while sipping on takeaway coffee. Now my Saturdays are much busier, and there is less of a need to find ways to distinguish them from the rest of the week, but I still carve time on Saturday mornings to browse through the Oneg. This past Saturday Guy posted a playlist he created with his favorite Israeli songs from the past year. This energizing song by Hoodna Orchestra seems like the perfect start to what I hope will be an exhilerating year.
